JOHN 13:33-35

                                            JOHN 13:33-35

Today, May 18, 2025, Sunday in the homily read the bible verse from book of John chapter 13 verse 33 to 35 and it says "33 My little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you. 34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." What does this mean? Jesus is teaching his disciples about the importance of loving one another. He tells them that he will be leaving soon, and they will look for him but can't follow him yet (verse 33). Then, he gives them a new command: to love each other just like he has loved them (verse 34). Jesus says that by showing love for one another, his disciples will be recognizable as his followers (verse 35). This passage emphasizes the value of love, kindness, and unity among believers.
Jesus' departure tells his disciples he'll be with them for a little while longer, hinting at his impending crucifixion and departure. Jesus commands his disciples to love one another as he has loved them. This love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. Jesus says that loving one another will be the identifying mark of his disciples. This love will demonstrate their relationship with him and set them apart.
Then the priest who do the service asked to rise hand to those who are in love. What they can give for love? What they can do for love? Then he says say “I love you to your right, the too your left” I whispered it to my left and right because I know My dan and my children are there. The priest said why you all reluctant to says. What do you give love?  What do you do for love? While listening to this homily, I remember my Jeev. Everything she done for me. This kind of love was not about the love in the romantic relationship. It’s a kind of love your humanity. It like in ten commandments love your neighbour, love your enemy.
Jesus addresses his disciples as "little children," conveying a sense of closeness and urgency due to his impending departure. Jesus' command to love one another "as I have loved you" sets his own love as the standard. This love is characterized by self-sacrifice, compassion, and kindness. The love disciples show each other will be a visible witness to the world, demonstrating their connection to Jesus and their faith. This passage emphasizes the importance of unity and love within the community of believers, highlighting the need for mutual support and care. Jesus leaves behind a legacy of love, entrusting his disciples to continue his work and represent him through their love for one another. Jesus' command emphasizes selfless love, encouraging disciples to prioritize others' needs and well-being. The Greek word "agape" used in passage describes unconditional, sacrificial love, highlighting the depth of love Jesus expects from his followers. Loving one another becomes a defining characteristic of Jesus' disciples, distinguishing them from other. The passage implies that loving one another is closely tied to one's relationship with Jesus, reflecting his love and presence in their lives.
This commandment has practical implications for Christian living, encouraging believers to demonstrate love through actions, forgiveness, and compassion. I am not purest like my Brother and my Father. I am Yin and Yang. I do believe in Karma and some Buddha’s teaching. But for me family I always give an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. My family are my bottom line. They do things to me I don’t mind they are just touching the wind. But if they dare to touch my family I don’t settle until they pay the price for what they did. I was a revengeful person when it comes to my family. In this filthy world hard to love an enemy if they keep hurting our family.
Jesus' command emphasizes tangible expressions of love, such as serving, forgiving, and caring for one another. Jesus' emphasis on love challenges societal norms, encouraging disciples to prioritize relationships and community. By commanding love, Jesus empowers his disciples to continue his mission and represent him in the world. This passage implies that loving one another transcends differences, promoting unity among diverse individuals within the community of believers. Jesus' love for his disciples reflects God's love for humanity, setting a high standard for love and relationships.
